Celebrating volunteers

As part of National Volunteer Week (NVW), Regional Sport Victoria (RSV) would like to shine a light on the incredible contribution that volunteers play across our organisation and throughout the Regional Sports Assemblies in Victoria.

The theme for this year’s NVW is ‘Better Together’ and there is no doubt that we are better together thanks to the significant role that our volunteers play across the sporting landscape.

The week is a chance for all of us to celebrate and recognise the vital work of volunteers and to say ‘thank you’.

Thank you for the countless hours that you put in. Thank you for the emotional investment you continue to give. Thank you for the financial and physical sacrifices you make in volunteering. Thank you for your selfless commitment to keeping our clubs, sports and organisations functional. Without you we simply would not be. Thank you.

It’s true that volunteering comes with its own benefits and rewards including perks that can be social, mental and physical health related, but underlying any personal gain is the fundamental element of giving.

Speaking about the important roles that volunteers play throughout RSV, General Manager Meghan Mayman said that the significance of our volunteer workforce and their contributions could not be underplayed.

“What a wonderful week this is, and the opportunity to really say thank you to all those who are so unselfish in giving pieces of themselves to community based sporting clubs and associations,” she said.

“It has been widely acknowledged that sport could not operate without our incredible volunteer workforce – they are the very heartbeat of the industry and allow us all to participate in the activities we love.

“So especially throughout National Volunteer Week we say thanks to all those that volunteer throughout the year. We appreciate and are grateful for everything that you do.”
