Regional Sport Comes Together for Strengthening Preventative Systems Workshop

Strengthening prevention through systems change starts with bringing the right people together.

This week, Regional Sport Victoria Executive Officer Ashleigh Nicolson had the pleasure of attending a Strengthening Preventative Systems workshop, coordinated by the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth).

It was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the sector, and to spend time with our Regional Sports Assemblies unpacking what systems change looks like in the context of regional sport.

The work we do in our regions every day is about more than participation – it’s about building relationships, strengthening community capability, and creating inclusive environments where people can connect, belong and thrive.

This work goes beyond delivering participation outputs, to creating genuine outcomes for people and communities – and that’s how real systems change is happening across regional Victoria.

Expertly facilitated by Charles Leadbeater from System Shift UK, the session challenged us to think about how we continue to work together – across organisations and communities – to create the conditions for meaningful and lasting change.

Thank you to VicHealth for bringing the session together – creating space to connect, learn, and collaborate – and shout out to our colleagues at Sports Focus for sharing their insights and a regional perspective as part of the panel discussion.
