RSA Highlights: Sports Focus Empowers Multicultural Communities Through Table Tennis and Badminton
Sports Focus is delighted to have partnered with Table Tennis Victoria and Badminton Victoria to deliver their Raising the Net Program, funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria.
Saturday saw the last of the come and try sessions being delivered for multicultural communities in Bendigo. The Bendigo Table Tennis Association and Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association provided our local Karen, Indian, Filipino, and Afghan (Hazara) communities with the opportunity to try table tennis and badminton in a fun and social environment.
With over 100 participants attending across the three come and try sessions, follow up participation sessions already being delivered, and many of the participants wanting to return, the program was deemed a huge success.
A very big thank you to Bendigo Community Health Services for educating the local associations about the Refugee Journey and for your support in engaging with the respective multicultural communities through your bi-lingual staff of lived experience. Your expertise in translating promotional materials and providing language support to the participants was invaluable.
Congratulations to the Bendigo Table Tennis Association and Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association for their commitment to cultural inclusion.
Sports Focus’ Laura Bradley, Community Development and Partnerships Lead said, “This has been a wonderful initiative, and I congratulate Table Tennis Victoria and Badminton Victoria for investing into regional areas. This project has provided our local multicultural communities with the opportunity to try sports in a fun and culturally safe environment.
We look forward to continuing to support the local associations on their cultural inclusion journey. This initiative has demonstrated the power of partnerships and what can be achieved through collaboration. Congratulations to Table Tennis Victoria and Badminton Victoria, we look forward to seeing more initiatives such as this being rolled out in the future.”
